George David Weiss fue un compositor muy prolífico, que escribió bandas sonoras de películas y musicales en Broadway. La letra de What a wonderful world la coescribió con Bob Thiele (1922-1996), productor cinematográfico, que utilizaba los seudónimos de George Douglas y Stanley Claiton.
What a wonderful world se compuso en 1968 y fue grabada por Louis Armstrong, pero no tuvo ningún éxito, ya que sólo se vendieron 1000 copias. Fue a partir de 1987 cuando alcanzó gran popularidad, al aparecer la grabación de Armstrong en la película Good morning, Vietnam, dirigida por Barry Levinson e interpretada por Robin Williams.
Esta partitura tiene un arreglo diferente a la que aparece como What a wonderful world, 1.
I see trees of green red roses too, I see them bloom for me and you, and I think to my self: oh!, what a wonderful world! I see skies of blue and clouds of white, the brigth blessed day, the dark sacred nigth, and I think to my self: oh!, what a wonderful world! The colors of the rainbow, so pretty in the sky, are also on the faces of people going by I see friends shaking hands, say in' "How do you do!" They're realy sayin': "I love you". I hear babies cry. I watch them grow, they'll learn much more than I'll ever know and I think to my self: what a wonderful world!
